Trivia

  • Despite being based on a fish and living in the water, Maggyo is not of the Water-type.
    • Its Pokédex entries state it can reside in mud as well, despite taking super effective damage from both Ground- and Water-type attacks.
  • Maggyo is the only Pokémon with a base stat total of 471.
  • No other Pokémon has the same type combination as Maggyo.
    • Due to this, Maggyo is the only Electric-type Pokémon immune to Electric-type attacks, excluding Pokémon immune via abilities.
  • Maggyo has the lowest Speed of all Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • Maggyo is the only brown Template:Type2 Pokémon.
  • Maggyo is one of four Pokémon immune to one of its own types without the aid of an ability. It shares this trait with Gligar, Gliscor and Landlos.
  • Maggyo is the only non-legendary Ground-type Pokémon that is not related to any other Pokémon by evolution.
  • It is arguably the only fish-inspired Pokémon to be weak against Template:Type2.

Origin

Maggyo seems to be based on a flounder or dab combined with an electric ray. It may also be based on the stargazer, another fish that spends most of its time buried in the sea bottom and can make electric discharges when disturbed.

Name origin

Its name is likely a combination of マッド maddo, mud, and 魚 gyo, fish.
