Squirtle (Japanese: ゼニガメ Zenigame) is a playable character in the Super Smash Bros. series, and one of the Pokémon Trainer's Pokémon. It is playable in Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Ultimate.
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Squirtle is seen on the stage Poké Floats and is the first Float to appear. Play begins on its head and arms until it slowly leaves off the bottom of the screen. After traveling through all the Poké Floats, the screen will be empty for a few seconds before Squirtle pops up and the cycle begins again.
Trophy information
Retreating into its shell and spitting water at its foes is Squirtle's trademark response to danger. It's one of the three Pokémon that Trainers can receive from Professor Oak in Pokémon Red and Blue. Squirtle evolves into Wartortle and then Blastoise, ramping up its water powers with each evolution.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Squirtle is playable as a member of Pokémon Trainer's party, along with Ivysaur and Charizard; the three Pokémon act as one "fighter" that is unlocked from the start. Compared to its teammates, Squirtle is a fast, lightweight fighter and uses various attacks using its shell and jets of water. It can use Waterfall to dash upward on a wave of water to recover from falls, Withdraw to retreat into its shell and propel itself forward while shooting water out; which makes up for its below-average dash speed. It also uses Water Gun to push enemies backward with a chargeable stream of water, but does no damage at all (unless fired without charging it up, though it also shortens the range). Because of its lightweight build, it excels in aerial combat and is hard to combo, but is easy to knock around and KO. Squirtle is also the shortest-ranged of the 3 Pokémon and needs to be in close range to deal damage, due to its small size and poor reach.
As a member of Pokémon Trainer's team, Squirtle is bound by the mechanics of Pokémon Change, which was implemented to encourage the player to switch the Trainer's active Pokémon periodically. This effectively prevents the player from relying on using any one team member exclusively.
Its Final Smash in Brawl, which it shares with Ivysaur and Charizard, is Triple Finish, in which Pokémon Trainer sends out all three of his Pokémon and has them unleash their strongest attacks on the opponent. In Squirtle's case, it unleashes a powerful Hydro Pump.

Subspace Emissary
Squirtle is initially the only Pokémon in Pokémon Trainer's party. He first uses it at the The Ruined Zoo to help Lucas, who finds himself alone and surrounded by Primids after Ness sacrificed himself so the blond psychic could escape from Wario. Squirtle itself does not play a role in the story after this point.

A Tiny Turtle Pokémon. In times of danger, it pulls its arms and legs inside its shell to protect from enemy attacks. When it conceals its neck, it also shoots a powerful stream of water from its mouth. Its shell not only protects its body, but also reduces water friction when in the water. When leveled up, it evolves into Wartortle.
Triple Finish
The Final Smash of the Pokémon Trainer. Squirtle, Ivysaur, and Charizard join forces to simultaneously use Hydro Pump, SolarBeam, and Fire Blast. This is the only time all three of them appear on the screen together, so this move boasts the strength of three in one. A window will appear on the screen, but don't worry about it.
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS/Wii U
While Squirtle is not a playable character in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, it makes an appearance in the game as a trophy in both versions of the game.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Squirtle receives minor tweaks from Brawl, now being faster on the ground, but slower in the air. Changes in its animations prevents it from Shellshifting, an advanced technique it could previously do. Its special moves are much more reliable, with Water Gun covering significantly more distance. Withdraw, while it now stops when it hits an opponent, is much faster and has higher priority.
