A Smoochum will use her lips to examine something that it sees for the first time. When walking, a Smoochum rocks her head back and forth. Despite being a Baby Pokémon, Smoochum are very conscious about their appearance. When given the chance, a Smoochum will look at her reflection to make sure it isn't dirty.

In the anime

Smoochum first appeared in Pikachu and Pichu. She was one of the Pokémon in the Pichu Brothers' Possé.

Another Smoochum was in AG168. She got herself separated from a trio of Jynx sisters and stumbled upon Team Rocket. Jessie had plans on using Smoochum's cuteness for profit, but her plans were foiled by the three Jynx Sisters and Ash and co.

Smoochum may be based on ガン黒 ganguro, blonde-haired, tanned Japanese girls.

Name origin

Smoochum's name is based on smooch, or kiss. It may also be a pun on smooch 'em. Its Japanese name is based on ちゅう chu, the sound of a kiss. The German name cames from the English word kiss and the French name is derived from the English word lip.
