Smoochum (Japanese: ムチュール Muchul) is a dual-type Ice/Psychic baby Pokémon.

She evolves into Jynx starting at level 30.

Biology

Physiology

Smoochum is a small Pokémon that resembles a baby girl. She has a large head with blonde hair, pink colored skin, large eyes, and a pair of large lips. She has a light colored chest, arms and feet and a purple colored abdomen, giving her the appearance of wearing pants.

Gender differences

Smoochum is an all-female species with no male counterpart.

Special abilities

Smoochum's lips are sensitive enough that Smoochum use them to identify and examine objects.

Behavior

A Smoochum will use her lips to examine something that she sees for the first time. When walking, a Smoochum rocks her head back and forth. Despite being a Baby Pokémon, Smoochum are very conscious about their appearance. When given the chance, a Smoochum will look at her reflection to make sure she isn't dirty.

Habitat

Trivia

Origin

Smoochum may be based on ガン黒 ganguro, blonde-haired, tanned Japanese girls, but is meant to resemble an otherwise normal human child. It should be also noted that Yuki Onna, a possible origin for Jynx, is sometimes shown as holding a seemingly human child. Or, Smoochum could be based on the legend of Kintarō, a human child raised by the Yama Uba, another possible origin of Jynx.

Name origin

Smoochum's name is based on smooch, or kiss. It also appears to be a combination of smooch and chum, meaning friend. It may also be a pun on smooch 'em.

Muchul is based on 夢中 muchū, daze or trance, and ちゅう chu, the sound of a kiss.

In other languages

  • German: Kussilla - From Kuss (kiss).
  • French: Lippouti - Combination of the English word lip and poutou (kiss).
  • Korean: 뽀뽀라 Ppoppora - Includes 뽀뽀 Ppoppo (a small peck or kiss).
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 迷唇娃 Mí Chún Wá - Literally "Bewildering lip baby/doll".
