Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Pokémon Horizons: The Series (Japanese: ポケットモンスター Pocket Monsters) is the eighth series of the Pokémon anime. It succeeds Pokémon Journeys: The Series. It premiered on April 14, 2023 in Japan with a one-hour special.

The series features dual protagonists Liko and Roy, along with the three Paldea starter Pokémon as they adventure through the Pokémon world.

Japanese seasons

Pokémon Horizons: The Series will be divided into multiple arcs in the Japanese release, with each part of the story given its own subtitle (Japanese: 副題 subtitle):

Trivia

  • In English pre-release material, this series was referred to as the "new Pokémon animated series".[2]
  • This is the second series to feature the 2D "Pocket Monster" logo, though with a new design.
    • Both the Japanese logo and the English logo have a split color design, with blue representing Liko and red representing Roy. The Japanese logo is split horizontally, with blue on the top half and red on the bottom half, and the English logo is split vertically, with blue on the left half and red on the right half.
  • This is the first series:
    • To not feature Ash Ketchum and Pikachu as protagonists.
    • To not feature the Team Rocket trio as antagonists.
    • To not have a narrator (with the exception of the 'World of Pokémon' intro at the beginning of HZ001).
    • To feature a female and male duo.
    • To have both a Creative and Action Director as a staff position.
    • To feature main characters on the series title.
    • Since the original series where the series does not premiere within the same month of the newly released core series games.
    • Since Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl to retain the art style from the previous series.
