====When a character is not selected====
When a Player character is not chosen, they will take on a pseudo-rival role. This was introduced in Ruby & Sapphire, where the The character not chosen becomes a rival. It was not seen in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. The player character not chosen has kept the pseudo rival role has in each main series game starting with Pokémon Emerald, with the exception of Pokémon Black and White, where the character not chosen only appears in the Battle Subway, and does not become any kind of ally like the others.
