High-tailing It from Haunter (Japanese: VS ゴースト VS Haunter), titled VS Haunter in the Chuang Yi translation, is the 408th chapter of the Pokémon Adventures manga, and the 71st chapter of the Diamond & Pearl arc. It is subtitled Pokédex and the Morning Sound (Japanese: 図鑑と朝の音 Pokédex and Morning Sound) in the VIZ Media translation and Pokédexes and the Morning Sound in the Chuang Yi translation.
Plot
The Advanced level Grunt eagerly points at Diamond's Pokédex, having wanted one since he first saw it at the Lost and Found office, amazed by its ability to record data on Pokémon so meticulously. Intrigued by how a child could posses such a piece of technology, he used all of Team Galactic's resources to find out more about it.
He explains that it was jointly developed by Professor Oak and Professor Rowan, and that those who own one are called Pokédex holders, sent out on a journey to research Pokémon. Diamond is suddenly knocked back by the Grunt's Pokémon as he continues, noting that all previous Pokédex holders have been involved in Region-altering confrontations, wondering if they're destined for greatness.
Kit uses Power Whip, knocking the Grunt against the wall and capturing his Pokémon using Kit's tongue. Diamond is left rattled after the Grunt's comment about destiny, but continues on to the experiment lab.
The Grunt tackles Diamond to the ground as he enters, attempting to stop him from freeing the captive Lake guardians. He command his team to ignore the Grunt's Pokémon and focus on entering the lab, while the Grunt sends out more of his Pokémon to try and stop them.
Don blocks the combined attack of all five Pokémon, allowing the other members of Diamond's team to make it into the lab. On two different floors, Pearl and Platinum notice their Pokédexes beeping, and let the increasing volume guide them to eachother.
Back in the fight, Don evolves into Bastiodon and uses Metal Burst, reflecting the absorbed damage back at the Grunt's Pokémon. Diamond rushes up to Mesprit, but is distracted by how loud the Pokédex beeping has become. To stop the Grunt from realizing he has help on the way, he has Chatler use Chatter to block the Grunt from hearing.
As the Grunt recoils in pain, he accidentally activates the emergency fire alarm, causing the room to flood with a thick fog, obscuring view of the room. He sweats nervously and attempts to report the disturbance to Cyrus, as the Legendaries were just about to produce another crystal for the second Red Chain.
