Moonlight (Japanese: つきのひかり Moonlight) is a non-damaging Normal-type move introduced in Generation II.

Effect

Generation II

Moonlight restores the user's current HP based on the weather conditions and time of day. Normal conditions will restore ½ of the total HP.

Generations III to V

Moonlight restores the user's current HP based on the weather conditions in the battle. Sunny conditions restore ⅔ HP, normal conditions restore ½ HP, and other conditions restore ¼ HP.

Games Description Allows HP to be restored by the moonlight. In battle, half the user's max HP is restored. Restores HP (varies by time). RSE Restores HP. The amount restored with the weather. Trivia

• Even though the recovery move is called "moonlight" signifying that it would recover more HP at night, it actually recovers more HP during intense sunlight brought on by Sunny Day. This is because the Japanese name for Sunny Day is simply Clear Sky.
  • It should also be noted that the moon reflects sunlight, so it could still work in that regard.
• Unlike Morning Sun, Espeon's signature move in Generation II, Moonlight was not learnable only by Umbreon. However, because of Espeon's association with that move, Moonlight can still be considered Umbreon's equivalent move; indeed they occupy similar positions in each Pokémon's moveset.
