Knock Off (Japanese: はたきおとす Knock Off) is a damage-dealing Dark-type move introduced in Generation III.

Effect

Generations III and IV

Knock Off inflicts damage and removes the target's held item. If Knock Off triggers an item (such as a Focus Band, Focus Sash, or Colbur Berry) after the attack, that item activates before Knock Off can remove it (in the case of the Focus Band which is not consumed, it will be removed after its effect has activated). Once the item has been removed, it cannot be used for the rest of the battle and switching either Pokémon out will not cause the target to regain its item. Knock Off cannot remove an item from Pokémon with the Sticky Hold Ability, or from Pokémon behind a substitute. It also cannot remove a Griseous Orb from Giratina or any item from Arceus.

After the battle, the target will regain the knocked-off item. If an Exp. Share or Lucky Egg was knocked off, the target will still gain experience accordingly.

Generation V

Knock Off can now remove any item from Arceus except a Plate. Knock Off cannot remove a Drive from Genesect.

Generation VI

Knock Off's power has been increased from 20 to 65. If this move is used on a Pokémon that is holding an item that can be lost, it will deal 50% more damage. A target with Sticky Hold will be protected from losing its item, but the bonus damage will still apply. If used on a Pokémon that cannot lose its item — such as a Pokémon holding a Mega Stone or an Orb that enables it to Mega Evolve or undergo Primal Reversion, Giratina holding a Griseous Orb, Arceus holding a Plate, or Genesect holding a Drive — this move will not receive the boost.

Knock Off will not remove a held item if the user faints due to Rough Skin, Iron Barbs, or Rocky Helmet.

Generation VII

Knock Off cannot remove Z-Crystals from any Pokémon, or Memories from a Pokémon with RKS System.
