GymShipping

One of the earliest ships in the Pokémon fandom was Gymshipping, (Japanese: タケカス TakeKasu) the belief in romance between the Cerulean City Gym Leader, Misty, and the Pewter City Gym Leader, Brock.

The anime

Many shippers saw romance in the air during the "Mystery at the Lighthouse" episode where a giant mysterious Pokémon sings and Brock and Misty begin dancing.

However, as the anime series progressed, the signs of love between the two Gym Leaders were nil. They appear to be good friends and Misty has developed a habit of yanking Brock's ear when he goes gaga over any attractive female including Nurse Joy, Officer Jenny, and any other female Gym Leader. The ship still floats in the form of fanart and fanfiction.

There have been moments to show that there may be hope for this ship, such as the line "You've got a pretty big heart yourself" in EP125, but this ship is unlikely to progress unless both characters stay at home for a future saga.

The manga

In Pokémon Special, Brock and Misty are two of the non-Team Rocket-affiliated Gym Leaders. However, there are no hints for romance between them; indeed, Brock has very little character development at all, and Misty has a crush on Red.
