The Grand Underground (Japanese: 地下大洞窟 Grand Underground Cave) is an area in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl found beneath the entire Sinnoh region. Players can travel to the Grand Underground using an Explorer Kit.
It takes the place of the Underground from Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.
Changes from Diamond and Pearl
- A variety of aesthetic environments now appear among the areas.
- Areas now include Pokémon Hideaways.
- The digging minigame returns, with confirmed returning elements including the sledgehammer and pickax, and the ability to find Spheres and Fossils. Pokémon statues may now newly appear among the found items.
- Secret Bases return and are created using a Digger Drill as before, but now bases can be decorated with the Pokémon statues obtained from digging, which can change the Pokémon available in Pokémon Hideaways.
- The Grand Underground supports online communications, compared to the original games which only supported local communications.
Pokémon Hideaways
Pokémon Hideaways (Japanese: ポケモンの隠れ家 Pokémon Hideaway) are new places where wild Pokémon can be encountered. Unlike the main overworld, these areas feature symbol encounters.
