Giga Impact (Japanese: ギガインパクト Giga Impact) is a damage-dealing Normal-type move introduced in Generation IV. It is identical to Hyper Beam, except that it is a Physical move rather than a Special one. It has been TM68 since Generation IV.

Almost every Pokémon that can learn Hyper Beam through TM15 can learn Giga Impact through TM68, and vice versa.

Effect

Giga Impact deals a large amount of damage and then forces the user to recharge during the next turn. Unless this attack misses, the user will always have to recharge.

Description

Games Description

Trivia

  • Giga Impact was likely introduced because Hyper Beam was changed, due to its nature as a beam of pure energy, from a physical move to a special move.
  • Aerodactyl and Tyranitar are the only Pokémon that learn both Hyper Beam and Giga Impact by leveling up.
  • Despite being among the lightest Pokémon (only surpassed by Gastly and Haunter), all three of the lake guardians can learn this move.
  • Axew, Fraxure, Lillipup, and Herdier are the only Pokémon that are not fully evolved that can learn Giga Impact by leveling up. And they all also learn it by level up.
  • Normally, only fully-evolved Pokémon can learn this move. However, some Pokémon that are not fully evolved but were in a previous generation (such as Porygon, Porygon2, Seadra, or Lickitung) may also learn this move, despite the fact it was introduced during Generation IV.
    • Also, some Pokémon that are currently fully evolved cannot learn either variation.
  • No Generation III Pokémon can learn Giga Impact via level up.
  • Giga Impact along with its variations is tied with Quick Attack and its variations to have the most variations.
