'''Genesect''' ([[List of Japanese Pokémon names|Japanese]]: '''ゲノセクト''' ''Genesect'') is a dual-type {{2t|Bug|Steel}} [[legendary Pokémon]] introduced in [[Generation V]]. Along with {{p|Keldeo}} and {{p|Meloetta}}, Genesect has not been officially revealed by Nintendo.

Genesect has a head like a UFO, with two large eyes and a small mouth. Its body is similar to {{p|Scizor}}, but more articulate. It has a powerful cannon (named in the {{m|Techno Blast}} move as the Photon Blaster) on its back that was apparently added as part of the bizarre modifications made to it by [[Team Plasma]].

Genesect is a genderless species.

Being modified by Team Plasma, Genesect is equipped with a powerful cannon that can shoot down everything around it. It is the [[signature move|only Pokémon]] capable of learning the move {{m|Techno Blast}}, which changes its type of blast depending on the [[Drive]] it holds. Genesect's cannon also give Genesect the ability to learn a variety of projectile-based moves like {{m|Zap Cannon}}, {{m|Energy Ball}}, or {{m|Flash Cannon}} or beam-based moves like {{m|Ice Beam}}, {{m|Hyper Beam}}, and {{m|Signal Beam}}. Genesect's sharp claws also allow it to learn moves like {{m|Fury Cutter}} and {{m|Slash}}. Genesect can also use {{type|Flying}} moves like {{m|Fly}} and {{m|Aerial Ace}}. It is indicated that even before Team Plasma powered up Genesect, it was a skilled and ruthless hunter.

Genesect was going to be revived from a [[fossil]] and powered up by [[Team Plasma]] to create the most powerful Pokémon ever, but [[N]] had the project canceled because he felt that any Pokémon modified by science had lost its pureness. However, one scientist kept working on it, annoyed that N denied his talent. This scientist reconstructed Genesect and powered up the gun on its back.

* Despite its [[Pokédex]] entries stating that it is a resurrected prehistoric Pokémon, it is not {{type|Rock}} like [[fossil]] Pokémon that can be resurrected by the {{player}}. This could be due to the modifications made to it by [[Team Plasma]].

** It is one of the two {{type|Bug}} Pokémon that can learn Fly. The other is {{p|Volcarona}}.

*** Neither of these Pokémon are {{type|Flying}}, and were both introduced in Generation V.

* Genesect is the only Pokémon which names a [[Villainous teams|villainous team]] in its Pokédex entry, in this case Team Plasma.

* Genesect's backstory is similar to {{p|Mewtwo}}'s; both were resurrected by [[villainous teams]] in at least one canon, and genetically engineered to be more powerful.

Genesect may be generally based on the giant insects of the {{wp|Paleozoic}} era, which existed for 300 million years, making it as old as the {{wp|cockroach}}. Its Steel-type features that give it a somewhat robotic appearance are a reference to alien robots in science fiction media, however this may be because of Team Plasma's modifications.
