Elemental monkeys

Revision as of 03:57, 21 November 2010 by TheChrisD (talk | contribs) (Adding clearing breaks. Some of us have wide monitors and the right floating stat boxes spill onto the next section.)

Elemental monkeys is a fan term that specifically refers to Yanappu, Baoppu, Hiyappu, and their respective evolutions Yanakkie, Baokkie, and Hiyakkie. The name is derived from the fact all of the Pokémon are based on monkeys with a different elemental type (Grass, Fire, and Water respectfully) and are closely related in terms of stats, moves, and appearance. This term should not be confused with other Pokémon based on monkeys like Chimchar, Aipom, Mankey etc.

Dent and Yanappu

Yanappu, Baoppu, and Hiyappu made their debut in BW005 under the ownership of Gym Leaders Dent, Pod, and Corn respectively. Pod and his Baoppu were the first that fought against Ash, it knew Flamethrower, Fire Punch, and Dig and was fairly skilled at using these moves. Despite this, it got swung around by its tail and lost to Ash's Pokabu. The next fight was Corn's Hiyappu vs. Ash's Pikachu. Hiyappu was at a clear disadvantage due to its typing but still won the battle thanks to the effects of Mud Sport. It knew Water Gun, Scratch, Double Team, and Mud Sport.

Dent's Yanappu

Main article: Dent's Yanappu

Dent's Yanappu vs. Ash's Mijumaru was the last match faced in the gym. Yanappu was a formidable opponent, overwhelming and intimidating Mijumaru with powerful Bullet Seed and Bite attacks with skillful agility that dodged Mijumaru's attacks. As a finisher, Yanappu used Solar Beam on Mijumaru, but Mijumaru reflected it with its shell and the battle continued. The battle ended when Mijumaru won against Yanappu after defeating it with Shell Blade.

After the battle, Dent remarks Ash's skills and decides to travel with him and Iris. Since then, Dent often uses Yanappu for assisting himself and his friends.
