Trivia

  • Eelektross and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon, aside from Ghost/Dark types, to have no weaknesses. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Ground type, and not because of type matchups.
    • They are also the only single-type Pokémon with no weaknesses.
    • However, they cannot be made invincible if given Wonder Guard, as it replaces Levitate, thus making them weak to Ground-type attacks.
    • Also, they are the only weakness-free Pokémon that have evolutionary relatives.
  • Despite being based on marine animals, and living in the ocean, Eelektross and its evolutionary relatives are not Water-type, cannot learn any Water-type moves other than Rain Dance and Aqua Tail, and are not found near water in the wild.
  • Although it has the Levitate ability, it can be heard landing on the floor when sent out of its Poké Ball. It shares this trait with Gengar.

Origin

Eelektross and its evolutionary relatives may be based on electric eels, Agnatha, and possibly leeches. The fact that it is Electric-type may be an allusion to bioelectrogenesis.

Name origin

Eelektross is a combination of eel, a corruption of electric, and boss or gross.

Shibirudon may be a combination of 痺れ shibire (numbness) or しびれうなぎ shibireunagi (electric eel) and don (Latin for lord, referring to Eelektross being the final evolution; Ancient Greek for tooth, referring to its mouth).
