Revision as of 11:49, 8 January 2017 by Eridanus (talk | contribs) (fairly sure that dream eater can't hit a substitute at all until it was 'fixed' in BW)

Works well if it is the same type as the move used by the last Pokémon.

Dream Eater (Japanese: ゆめくい Dream Eat) is a damage-dealing Psychic-type move introduced in Generation I. It was TM42 in Generation I and II. It lost its status in Generation III before regaining its status as a TM, albeit as TM85, in Generation IV onwards.

Effect

Generations I to IV

Dream Eater only works if the target is asleep. Dream Eater inflicts damage and 50% of the damage dealt (rounded up) is restored to the user as HP.

If Dream Eater breaks a substitute, no HP will be restored to the user. If HP is restored to the user when its current HP is greater than its maximum HP, its current HP will be set equal to its maximum HP.

Dream Eater will always fail if the target is not asleep and, except for Generation I core series games, if the target has a substitute.

If the user has a Big Root as its held item, it will recover 30% more HP than it normally would (the damage dealt stays the same).

Dream Eater can be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining extra two appeal points if either the move Calm Mind or Hypnosis was used in the prior turn.

Generation V

Dream Eater is now affected by Liquid Ooze and can hit a substitute.

Generation VI onwards

Dream Eater cannot be used if the user is under the effects of Heal Block.

Dream Eater can be used as part of a Contest Spectaculars combination, with the user gaining extra three appeal points if a sleep-inducing status move (except Psycho Shift and Rest) was used in the prior turn.

Dream Eater affects targets with the Comatose ability, which act as though they are asleep without the status condition.
