* In [[Generation II]], after the appearance of the '''"[Pokémon's name] PROTECTING itself!"''' message, another message saying that the opponent's Pokémon's move missed. The second message was removed in [[Generation III]], likely to avoid redundancy.

* The description for this move's capability isn't entirely true. The only moves it will ''never'' block are {{m|Shadow Force}} and {{m|Feint}}.

* Due to the fact that {{m|Protect}} has exactly the same effect, a higher [[Power points|PP]], and that all Pokémon capable of learning Detect can learn Protect, Detect is [[Imprison (move)|alm]][[Disable (move)|ost]] completely redundant compared to Protect. However, the decay of Detect is less severe than that of Protect, which somewhat alleviates the problem.
