Daniel (Japanese: ユウタ Yūta) is a character of the day in A Marathon Rivalry!. He is voiced by 宮原永海 Nami Miyahara in Japanese and Ed Paul in English.
He is a young boy who wears khaki pants, black glasses, a green shirt, and a lab coat. In his left hand, he carries a laptop, which he uses to analyze his Pokémon's condition. He believes that the best way to train his Pokémon is a "scientific" approach; therefore, he very frequently uses high-tech machines to train them. This was seen when Daniel demonstrated his training style to Ash and his friends in his training lab in Camellia Town. He also believes that the Pokéathlon better compares two Trainers' levels of synchronicity with their Pokémon than does a Pokémon battle.

|desc=Snorlax is Daniel's main Pokémon. It was shown early in the episode undergoing the  scientific training that Daniel decided would be the best way for them to practice for the Pokéathlon events. Daniel also used Snorlax as a demonstration on his strategy to winning. On the day of the Pokéathlon, Daniel got a lecture from Ash on how he wasn't being a very good trainer, because his scientific training didn't take Snorlax's feelings into account. After Daniel verified Ash's assertion that Snorlax was feeling tired with his scientific equipment, he started to believe that maybe Ash was right, and decided to leave Snorlax with Team Rocket, who were supposedly "Massage Artists" with a very advanced "Massage Robot", in order to get a massage to help it relax before the big event. When Team Rocket tried to escape with Snorlax and Ash's Pikachu, Snorlax weighed down their balloon too much and was preventing them from escaping, and was left behind, in favor of a quick escape with Ash's Pikachu. Ash tried to use his Staraptor to save Pikachu, but to no avail, as it was defeated by Team Rocket. Daniel then had Snorlax try to help save Pikachu. Using its trampoline-jumping skills, Snorlax was able to jump up and save Ash's Pikachu from Team Rocket. It was then used in the final event of the day, the Hurdle Dash, where it raced against Ash's Pikachu, along with many other Pokémon and their Trainers, and managed to win the race by a very small margin, followed closely in second by Ash's Pikachu.}}

|desc=Hitmonlee was used in the Catch Saucer event which was the first event of the day. It competed against Ash's Monferno, along with many other Pokémon and their Trainers. Before the event began, Daniel asserted to Ash that there was no way that Ash's Monferno would be able to beat his Hitmonlee, with the training that they had done. As it turned out, Daniel was half right. The Fighting-type skills utilized by both Pokémon served them well during the event, as Ash's Monferno competed well enough to tie with Hitmonlee for the win. Daniel was shocked that Ash and his Monferno were able to do as well as he and Hitmonlee were able to do in the event.}}

Although it fought very hard using its Fighting-type skills, Ash's Monferno was equally agile, which resulted in the two Pokémon tying for the win.
