Bullet Seed (Japanese: タネマシンガン Seed Machine Gun) is a damage-dealing Grass-type multi-strike move introduced in Generation III. It was TM09 from Generation III to Generation IV.

Effect

Generation III

Bullet Seed does damage, hitting 2-5 times per use. There is a 37.5% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 37.5% chance that it will hit 3 times, a 12.5% chance that it will hit 4 times, and a 12.5% chance that it will hit 5 times. This gives the attack an average power of 30. Each hit made has an equal chance to be a critical hit.

Bullet Seed will end immediately if it breaks a substitute. Bide and Counter will only acknowledge the last hit of this move.

Generation IV

Same as Generation III, except that it will continue attacking after a substitute is broken.

Due to the introduction of the Ability Skill Link, a Pokémon with said Ability will always hit five times when using Bullet Seed, if it does not miss. However, no Pokémon could naturally obtain Skill Link and Bullet Seed until Generation V.

Generation V

Same as Generation IV, except the Base Power has increased from 10 to 25. This increased the average power from 30 to 75. There is now a 33.3% chance that it will hit 2 times, a 33.3% chance it will hit 3 times, a 16.7% chance it will hit 4 times, and a 16.7% chance it will hit 5 times. The average number of hits remains 3.

Unlike previous generations, if Focus Sash, Focus Band, or Sturdy activate before the last hit is dealt, the following hit will cause the defending Pokémon to faint; however, Focus Band can still activate repeatedly to prevent fainting, but each chance is independent of the previous one. Each hit will cause Weak Armor to activate.
