Which games?

Out of curiosity, which games are being covered under Project Sidegames? Just the Ranger and Mystery Dungeon series, or would Colosseum and XD also be covered under this? --Phantomjunkie 01:35, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Everything here. CuboneKing 01:37, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

It covers all non-main series games (XD and Colosseum are main series games) aside from Battrio, which has its own project. Flyingtypefan 03:07, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Where did Flyingtypefan ask to be a leader? Founders and leaders are different. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 01:39, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Umeko just warned her about it... CuboneKing 01:41, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

I didn't know when i started it. Sorry! Flyingtypefan 02:08, 13 July 2010 (UTC) So...should i ask, or does anyone else object? Flyingtypefan 03:01, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

You need to ask, even if no-one else objects. That's just the way it works. Werdnae (talk) 03:05, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Features Stub/Wanted article

Great work so far guys. Could I also get you to post on this talk page (not necessarily in this section, but for now it'll do) when you improve one? That way I can see it and update the featured article more quickly. Thanks, and keep up the great work. Werdnae (talk) 06:52, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Can I join?

I was hoping you all could clue me in. I would love to contribute to Project Sidegames, but I can't dedicate a huge amount of time. Can I become a member? I play the Ranger series, Rumble, and (as soon as it comes out) PokéPark Wii. I have tried to build up the Rumble pages in the past, but there is a little confusion as to template design. If someone would help me with standardizing the availability templates, I'd certainly implement them. (Specifically, the colors on the current template do not match the colors of the levels, which is something I've unsuccessfully advocated for in the past.) Thanks! ʝɑzzmotɦ ❝❞ 05:47, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure to join any project, you just add your name to the bottom of the list unless it says otherwise. So, to join, just add your name to the bottom of the participants list. Flyingtypefan 19:52, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Please do add your name to the list, we need more members! Even if you don't have much time, every little bit helps. I can help with your template standardising. Which template in particular? Template:Rumbleloc and it's respective header and footer? Werdnae (talk) 21:12, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that's the template. Now, maybe I'm just crazy, but I clearly see that the letters of the different stages (C,B,A,S) inside each level are color coded --- just like in SoA, when you are graded on your capture. I think it would be better to have colors that match, but I had a ridiculously hard time trying to convince Sidnoea, and didn't want it to turn into an edit war. Normally, I'm pretty okay at code, but the lack of whitespace in the template confuses the hell out of me. ʝɑzzmotɦ ❝❞ 21:40, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
What colours are the ranks in the game? At the moment it has | style="background: #{{#switch:{{{3|no}}}|yes={{bronze color}}|no=FFFFFF|{{red color}}}};" | '''{{color|{{#switch:{{{3|no}}}|yes=000000|no={{bronze color}}|{{red color}}}}|C}}''' This bit: style="background: #{{#switch:{{{3|no}}}|yes={{bronze color}}|no=FFFFFF|{{red color}}}}; changes the background colour, and this bit: '''{{color|{{#switch:{{{3|no}}}|yes=000000|no={{bronze color}}|{{red color}}}}|C}}''' sets the text colour. In other ranks {{bronze color}} is replaced by {{silver color}}, {{gold color}} and {{platinum color}}, similar to how the route articles have the game colours in the list to show availability. If the ranks aren't coloured bronze, silver, gold and platinum then we should almost certainly change the colours. Werdnae (talk) 22:32, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
The ranks are C-green; B-blue; A-magenta; S-red. (Examples: C rank, B rank, A rank, S rank) I tried to implement it without a template before I knew how to code one, still visible on Bright Beach. I'm also a little confused, because I thought that A was red and S was magenta, but apparently I'm wrong? Also, I think "Grade" is UK English and "Rank" is Am. English, but I'm not sure about that, either. Anyway, if you can fix the template, I can work on fleshing out the pages. Thanks so much! ʝɑzzmotɦ ❝❞ 22:56, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome. I pulled the colours from those images. Werdnae (talk) 23:34, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Stub/wanted article

Just so you know, i plan on tackling those (or at least the Ranger Mission one) later if no one else has already. But i have a question: why is "Croagunks Swap Shop"under "featured wanted article" if it already exists? Flyingtypefan 02:07, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Probably got created after it was posted as a wanted article and then nobody switched it out for a new one. --ZestyCactus 02:16, 7 August 2010 (UTC)
I've changed it. Other than Sky Gift, which sat there for over two weeks, the only ones I could find in the wanted pages are Guardian Signs articles. I know most of you won't have that yet, since it hasn't been released in English yet, so if anyone has any better ideas, feel free to suggest them. Werdnae (talk) 04:14, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

I have a suggestion...

I heard someone (i don't rememember who or where, just saying that it wasn't originally my idea) suggest that we have a list of minor characters in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I think that would be a good idea, since right now we have to either keep a bunch of stubs just to state what little there is to say about the character, or delete them and (most of the time) not be able to put the information anywhere. Obviously the Pokemon that contributed to the story would still have articles, but the ones that didn't (e.g. Dugtrio/Diglett, Croagunk, Corphish) would be merged into the list. In addition to listing the characters, it would have a sentence or two about their role in the game. Would this be a good idea? Flyingtypefan 01:27, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

I think it would be a good idea. We could also then mention characters that aren't notable enough for their own article, such as town elder Torkoal, or Xatu from MD1. Werdnae (talk) 02:56, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Are the ones with articles going to be mentioned, if the list was instead a list of non-player characters in Explorers of Time, Darkness, and Sky? It might put more information, with the ones with article having the {{main}} template near the top of their section. Speaking of MD characters, nothing has been shown for their notability requirements. Team Raider especially pops into my mind, considering all that they did in the game was get mentioned a lot, and then save Dugtrio. If they were notable, most likely everybody would be. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 12:03, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
You're right, I don't think we have a proper policy on that, but we probably should develop one. I've discussed it with PsychicRider, co-leader of Project CharacterDex. We came to the conclusion that the page would be a good idea, especially if it gets rid of some of the smaller, barely-one-paragraph pages, but that it should just be a single page for the series. If it gets very long then we can talk about splitting it. It would be at List of Mystery Dungeon characters, and would pretty much need to have a maximum of one paragraph per character (or team). I'll start something in my userspace, once I've done a bit I'll link it and let you edit it as you please. Currently, I do have one thing I'd like discussion on: Gengar. Should he be listed solely as part of Team Meanies or on his own? Werdnae (talk) 03:20, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
And here's a very incomplete version. Please feel free to add to this, including the TDS characters. I didn't have the time to do them yet. Werdnae (talk) 04:17, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
I could try and get started on a policy, but it probably would incorporate more than just the MD characters. There appears to be some location inconsistency as well. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 01:26, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Ranger Stuff

Shouldn't there be two sections stating Pokémon found before the credits and Pokémon found after the credits?--Chalkwriter 18:14, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Wait, what are you talking about? Some sort of list of Pokémon found in Ranger? Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 18:18, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I think they mean in the location articles. In them they are marked with * (if you don't know what that dotted underline means, hover your mouse over the text). I don't think we need to split it into two sections. That would just be a bit over the top for the two or three Pokémon max. on each page. Werdnae (talk) 21:23, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Pokémon Sky Character Moves

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, in Special Episode 1: Bidoof's Wish, there is a part where all of the guild members fight with Bidoof. Should their moves be included on their respective pages?--Chalkwriter 15:43, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Go for it. My only concern is that some of those pages are pretty much empty at the moment, so more info would be great. Werdnae (talk) 07:49, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

MD4

How should I be making the MD4 (WiiWare) dungeon articles? The only available translations of their names are Serebii ones. It's Turtwig A! My talk or wiki edits 00:31, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Serebii obviously has the Japanese text names. I would say get a list of all them and submit it to someone who can translate them, like Umeko, and then make the articles based on translations done by someone affiliated with BG. MaverickNate 00:41, 9 October 2010 (UTC)

Pokemon Yellow?

I'm not very familiar with Generation I games, and I was wondering if Pokemon Yellow is considered a side game because it's a "Special Pikachu Edition" and is sort of like a branch off Pokemon Red and Blue. (Charizard101 21:17, 11 February 2012 (UTC))

No. Yellow is a main series title. - Kogoro - Talk to me - 21:20, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Navigation Templates on Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Dungeons and locations, please?

Because really, I'm having trouble going to the specific dungeons page i want to go to, and plus, there might be someone else out there wanting this, to. - unsigned comment from Xatuish (talkcontribs)

I wholeheartedly agree. So I've made a template. I'll work on getting it on pages, then I'll make one for MD1. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 18:50, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
Thanks. Hope you or whoever can get it put up soon. --Xatuish 21:47, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
They're already up. Also, you can't resign after you've already posted a comment. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 21:51, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Is there much more to add anyway?

Because aside from aspects like item lists on the mystery dungeon pages not being there, I can't find a whole lot to really do... --Xatuish 21:58, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

There's still information to add, but we tend to get all the basic details within a few weeks of the English release of the newer games. So at the moment the info that is still to add is the trickier info to obtain. If you're planning on getting PokéPark 2: Beyond the World when it's released in a couple of weeks, there'll be plenty of info to add then. Werdnae (talk) 00:21, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Well thats good. Think i can cover the items in the mystery dungeon games? like, what items you can find in dungeons, kecleon stores, and all that? I might consider Pokepark 2 coverage, but I prefer working on the mystery dungeon games for now. --Xatuish 00:32, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Definitely. I think I'll need to make a new template for it, I don't think any of our existing templates would be suitable. In the mean time, feel free to start collecting/collating the info. (Remember, if you didn't get the info from the game yourself but are finding it online, you need to have permission from your source to use their data. To save time, neither Serebii nor PokéBeach will give you permission, so their data can't be used). Werdnae (talk) 01:03, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

Don't worry. I get my data directly from the game. A slow process, yes, but still achievable. --Xatuish 02:08, 14 February 2012 (UTC)

I seem to remember that you can sort them into groups like "Ammo", "TM and so on with the search feature in Kangaskhan Storage...--Chalkwriter 15:36, 18 February 2012 (UTC)

PokéPark 2

No longer a stub. The fact that it states it will come out in Japan Winter 2011 is somewhat outdated. --Abcboy (talk) 05:31, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Yes, that was very old. I took care of it. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 11:57, 18 December 2012 (UTC)

Pokemon mystery dungeon start menu

I have a question. When you start the game and press continue and the adventure record appears, what does the the nummbers mean on the badge on the top screen? Also what badge is it? - unsigned comment from Raltseye (talkcontribs)

Which mystery dungeon game is this? Red/Blue, time/darkness/sky or gates to infinity? Werdnae (talk) 02:20, 22 August 2014 (UTC)

Pokemon mystery dungeon Explorers of Darkness/Time and sky. - unsigned comment from Raltseye (talkcontribs)

Looking at it, I'm pretty sure that the badge is the exploration team badge. (The one you use to return home on completion of a mission/rescue the Pokémon you've been asked to). It should change depending on your team rank IIRC. I don't know exactly what the number is for, but it appears to be an ID/serial number, probably for identifying/differentiating between teams with the same name. Werdnae (talk) 04:15, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

Yeah probally, thanks alot mate. Erhm is there a page about it on bulbapedia? Perhaps. If not why?

HP recovery rate while walking

I have searched and searched for information on how fast the HP recovers in the mystery dungeon games and have only fond that the Quick Healer IQ skill increases the rate of which it does and so I am wondering if anyone have any information on the subject could please upload it or if have missed an article where it stands please link.

Weird Forest?

In which game is Weird Forest featured in? --Raltseye (talk) 13:04, 16 July 2015 (UTC)

Yeah I figured that out myself after awile guess I was too fast to ask :P Sorry. But if we need those pages wouldn't be better to say that we need Exiting Meadow instead since that one is next in line? --Raltseye (talk) 10:52, 17 July 2015 (UTC)
Well can someone please change this to Pokémon Village, Pokémon Beach, Pokémon Garden, Exciting Meadow, or Sparkling Meadow I think some of those are more suited to start with than Weird Forest --Raltseye (talk) 02:42, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky Error

I noticed that there was a pretty big error with at least two articles (areas and some of the storyline). As it is now, It says that Northern Desert leads to Quicksand Cave while there is actually a separate area called Quicksand Desert that is a main part of the story and leads to Quicksand Cave. Quicksand cave isn't mentioned anywhere. I will be checking to see if it is the same for Time and Darkness. I would really like to become a contributor since I've spent so much time playing the older MD games. Have the rules on joining changed any? All of the info I'm seeing is at least a few years old. Zeina (talk) 01:12, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

You don't have to really do much anything beyond sign up for this site (like you plainly have, since you posted here =P ) before you start editing wherever you want. The only restriction you'll have is that you won't be autoconfirmed for a while still. Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:45, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for the quick reply! I'll get to work then. ^_^ Zeina (talk) 01:48, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

Updating dungeon and rescue camp articles

The dungeon and rescue camp articles from Red and Blue Rescue Team need to be updated with new information from Rescue Team DX. I see that this is happening already, and I think we need a systematic way of displaying the changes to these areas between the original games and the remake.

I suggest that each dungeon and rescue camp/friend area have two separate sections listing the Pokémon and items that are available there. If the price of a friend area differs between the two games, we should list both prices. Any other suggestions? Qzekrom (talk) 04:55, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Example (from Stump Forest):

Stump ForestRTDX (Japanese: <TODO fill in>) or Mist-Rise ForestRB (Japanese: かげろうのもり Dragonfly Forest) is a rescue team camp. It is automatically given away when visiting the Wigglytuff Club for the first time. It has a capacity of fourteen PokémonRB, all of them at least partially Bug-type. It is one of four camps in the Eastern Forest area.

We should use "rescue team camp" instead of "friend area" throughout all camp articles. Qzekrom (talk) 16:38, 11 March 2020 (UTC)

Seeking information on some of the spinoff games

I was wondering if there are any users out there who can provide information on the following games:

  • The Chinese version of Pokémon Quest, which has several unique features
  • The three Pokémon Mystery Dungeon WiiWare titles

If anybody out there has information on these games, please feel free to add information and images. Thanks in advance! Buzzfan120 (talk) 22:53, 22 August 2021 (UTC)

Adding more detail to Pokemon: Unite item and Pokemon pages?

Hi, I have noticed that some of the held items and battle items on the Pokemon Unite page and the Pokemon on the Pokemon Unite List of Pokemon page are not written in as much detail as the corresponding pages on UniteDB.

UniteDB lists the exact values for what items are doing and exactly what Pokemon moves do, compared to the Bulbapedia articles which often use generic language (such as increased damage instead of saying how much damage is increased by, damage over time instead of the exact number of seconds an effect lasts for, or for the potion item restores some of your Pokemon's HP instead of restores 160 HP plus 20% of your max HP). This aligns with the way that the official Pokemon Unite website and the game itself talk about Pokemon moves and items, but it is much less useful than having the exact values available. As a result, UniteDB is seen as the go-to resource for looking up anything related to Pokemon Unite instead of Bulbapedia.

I was wondering if we have permission to edit the Pokemon Unite articles on Bulbapedia in order to expand on the descriptions of Pokemon moves and items. This could be done by adding some of the exact values from UniteDB while retaining the structure of the original structure of the content on Bulbapedia. Technically those values from UniteDB are actual stats from the game code and how it works, so it isn't really copying UniteDB as long as we only take the values and don't copy-paste exactly the same way that they have said things. Unless there is some other reason I am unaware of for not adding these exact values, such as the data being unverifiable, or trying to keep the articles simple and not overwhelming people with stats. If one of these is the case, it might be a good idea to link the UniteDB website at the bottom of one (or both) of the mentioned Pokemon Unite pages for people looking for more in-depth and detailed information about the game. --Catbert45 (talk) 05:29, 18 February 2022 (UTC)

Two NEW pages to add/help to add

Hey Everyone!

I have two pages that should be added to the mainspace, both related to Pokemon Masters EX. One is about Seasonal Outfits and the other about EX Styles. If anyone can look over them and see if they are eligible to be put on the mainspace, that would be great.----AsherNiX (TaLK) 03:09, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

I think the pages are very good WIP, it'd probably be better to finish your development before they get mainspaced. They both still have WIP sections, but once those are taken care of I don't see why they couldn't be! --Spriteit (talk) 10:40, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

Story info for Masters characters

This has come up before in discussions I've had with individual users, so I figure we should have a broad discussion about the topic so we can come to a consensus about how to implement this.

A big weakness of our Masters character pages at the moment is that they are very mechanic-focused. Any information about the character's role in the main story, explanations how they got their partner Pokémon, etc. is relegated to trivia if it's present at all. I'd like for us to start adding story information about Masters characters; the story appearances sections I've been adding to pages will be a big help with writing them.

However, I'm not sure where would be the best place to put this information. At the top of the character page? At the bottom, below all the sync pair listings? On the character's main page? It might even make sense to put some basic information on the character's main page and more detailed information on their Masters page. What do y'all think? Storm Aurora (talk) 01:51, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

How much content are we talking about? Cause older/more popular characters like Rosa and Misty have quite a bit of technical data; if story content doubles the page size, I think we'd have to figure something else out. glikglak 02:38, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
I don't think it'd be that much; the In the games section on Paulo's page is a good example of what I imagine these sections would look like for the most plot-relevant characters. Storm Aurora (talk) 22:09, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
Then I'd say add the info there and follow the regular character format: role, Pokémon, gallery, etc. glikglak 15:09, 5 November 2023 (UTC)
Added an In the games section to Ryuki's page as an example. I'm not attached to the section or subsection titles, but the basic idea is that each character should have info about:
  • Their personality and backstory. This is liable to have a lot of overlap with the character's main page, but only events that are specifically referenced in Masters would be mentioned.
  • Their history and relationships on Pasio. This includes things like their attitude towards the PML, information about other regions they learned on Pasio, and their opinion on the player character.
  • Their roles in stories. I expect this section would be ordered the same as quotes pages: PML Arc, Legendary Adventures, Villain Arc, Mysterious Stones Chapter, Champion Stadium, Battle Villa, events, sync pair stories.
  • Their Pokémon. This section is specifically for lore-related information about their Pokémon, so Pokémon currently in the "other" section would be moved here. Any details we know about the Pokémon, how it was obtained, and its relationship with its Trainer can be included here. This should include Pokémon they're shown to use in stories, Pokémon they use in battles, and Pokémon that they mention having.
I'm not sure where things like log-in conversations would be covered (if at all). Otherwise, this is basically how I think the sections should be laid out. Feel free to discuss any improvements or changes you can think of, including things you don't think are necessary, things you think should be included on the character's main page, and section title suggestions. Storm Aurora (talk) 20:16, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
Considering Masters is a very story based game, I'd feel that this would be relevant to the pages, particularly as characters may sometimes gain more character development than their canon main game counterpart. You'd need to make sure it doesn't just become a list of events that they featured in written in prose. The length of Paulo's section is ok as he is a main rival and original character in these games. However, I don't feel the character sections for the others should be as long.Wowy(talk) 07:30, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
Some characters like Brock and Misty have so much story that adding all of their stuff would be way too much. I'm not really sure about this, though it could be my personal difficulty for accepting big, sudden changes coming through. --FinnishPokéFan92 (talk) 18:38, 12 December 2023 (UTC)

Articles from Contributing Writers and UNITE

We need to think about/rethink source priority, because we have a critical problem. Currently, invisible policy says articles from Pokemon.com written by contributing writers are given the absolute lowest tier of authority. Basically, they are wrong unless proven right by something else. I dislike it, I think it's dumb, but that's not the deal. No the deal is that certain terms to use for Pokémon UNITE are only provided from those kinds of articles, to the point where saying they "no way, no how, cannot count" is paramount to making them impossible to write and difficult to read. Where does the term "objective Pokémon" come from? Those articles. (I think "boss" only exists in terms of PvE battles and doesn't apply to regular battles, so that's out.) How about the "Pit", used for that area in the Central Area where an objective Pokémon appears? Also from those articles, and writing around it gets difficult once you realize there are three different layers of Central Area and none of them are named. As far as I can determine, no location in UNITE actually calls moves physical or special. No, all we have is this article saying damage can be "Attack damage" and "Sp. Atk damage". (I'm loathe to go and plug one games terms into another game just because the other game's terms sound funny. That's full on slippery slope territory based on what people consider goofy/incorrect or not. Also, technically Bulbapedia says each Pokémon has a damage type, so it would appear that "Attack damage" is derived from "damage type")

I think there needs to be a policy about determining what happens when the only name for a concept is from a "source of low priority". I think that such a policy should allow the low priority source to be considered "true", because there comes a point where denying terms just makes things less readable. I would very much appreciate only having to say, "Outer portion of Central Area", "Inner Portion of Central Area", and "Pit", rather than the unholy concoction of "Outermost Portion of Central Area", "Middle Portion of Central Area", and "Innermost Portion of Central Area". Using the shorthand that exist makes it easier to read and easier to draw out the picture of the area in your head from the text. It allows for distinguishing what classes of Pokémon exist, and it makes so that we have fewer unknown names running around. It also makes it so that people searching for terms they think are true (because why would the official website lie to them) can actually find the pages.

Notably, this little issue prevents the wild Pokémon article for UNITE from being written until resolved because it affects how that is sectioned, so there's that. Salmancer (talk) 16:09, 2 March 2024 (UTC)
