In the Japanese versions, if the {{player}} doesn't give a name for the rival, he will be automatically named パール ''Pearl'' in Diamond and ダイヤ ''Dia'' in Pearl. In Platinum, either Dia or Pearl will be randomly selected. The same is the case for other versions of the games, choosing either "Diamond" or "Pearl" based on the game being played. The only reason the Japanese games use ダイヤ rather than the full ダイヤモンド for "Diamond" is because a Trainer's name is restricted to five characters in Japan, while elsewhere the restriction is seven.
