Route 124 is a large Water route that links Lilycove City's eastern side with 126's northern side. Near the center of the route, the path turns to the south. You will need Dive to fully explore it. At the mouth of the outlet near Mossdeep, a pair of islands play home to the Diving Treasure Hunter, who will exchange Shards for Evolutionary stones. South of the outlet, Route 124 becomes Route 126.
124 is a large water route between Lilycove and Mossdeep City. Follow the route as it bends southeast. You will encounter several dark patches as you navigate the waters: these are dive spots that provide access to the underwater portion of the route, although you will need 08 (obtained later on) in order to use them.

There are 16 spots to Dive along the route. Although not every spot is connected to one another via underwater pathways, most are, allowing trainers to reach otherwise inaccessible areas of Route 124. Seaweed, the underwater equivalent of long grass, line the submarine passages of the route.

Diving Treasue Hunter
The Diving Treasure Hunter is a man that will exchange Shards for evolutionary stones. He lives in a small hut on 124, near Mossdeep City. If you talk to him, he will trade a corresponding stone for your Shard based on its color. This transaction is one of the few ways to obtain evolutionary stones, so take advantage of this guy!
Diving Treasure Hunter
The Diving Treasure Hunter is a man who lives in a small hut on an island near the eastern terminus of the route and will exchange colored Shards for evolutionary stones. Shards can be found held by certain underwater Pokémon. This is one of the few ways to obtain evolutionary stones, so take advantage of this guy!

Mossdeep City is on an island. North of the city is the Shoal Cave, which is located on 125. To its west is where you have traveled from, Route 124, and to the east is 127. It blossoms with flowers and trees. The city's slogan is Cherish Pokémon!. It also has a Space Center which boasts of being the closest place to space. Now, the house right at the corner of the west side of the city is Steven Stone's house. Enter it. You will find a note left by Steven, saying that he has gone on a journey and is leaving Beldum, his most favorite Pokémon, for you. There is a Poké Ball next to it. It contains a level 5 Beldum. This is a nice surprise... Beldum is the first evolution of Metagross, a very powerful Steel. Unfortunately, the only move Beldum learns is Take Down. But once it evolves into Metang at Level 20, it's a good Pokémon, and it's awesome once it becomes Metagross at Level 45. Now head out. There are also other houses. One boy will inform you about where your secret base is in case you have forgotten. In another house, a Black Belt will inform you which Pokéblocks your Pokémon like. Another Black Belt, who is standing outside on the waves will teach your Pokémon DynamicPunch.
Mossdeep City is situated on a large island east of Route 124. The Mossdeep Space Center is located here, which boasts of being "the closest place to space". The Space Center plays a large role later in the game.

Steven Stone's house lies on the far west side of the city. Enter it to find a note left for you on the table. It says that he has gone on a journey and is leaving Beldum, his most favorite Pokémon, to you. A Poké Ball next to the note contains a level 5 Beldum. What a nice surprise! Beldum's final evolution is Metagross, a tremendously powerful -type Pokémon. Unfortunately, the only move Beldum learns is Take Down; but once it evolves into Metang at Level 20, it gains versatility and turns out to be awesome once it evolves into Metagross at Level 45. Now head out.

Shoal Cave
Shoal Cave is the only place in where wild Spheal and Snorunt can be encountered. The cave has several levels of terrain, only reachable during certain times of the day, due to tides. During high tide, you may access different areas by Surfing that could not be accessed on foot during low tide. This feature greatly limits the amount of area that you can access, but at the same time, allows you to explore areas that can not be explored when the cave isn't flooded.

As you probably noticed, there is a Gym here. The specialty type is Psychic, and the highest-leveled Pokémon are Level 42, so training to at least that level before challenging the Gym is recommended. Know in advance that there are two Gym Leaders here— Tate and Liza are twins and will challenge you to a Double Battle! When you're ready, enter the Gym.

Four Shoal Salts and four Shoal Shells can be found in the Shoal Cave. If all four Shoal Salts and four Shoal Shells are in the bag, you can give the ingredients to the old man in the first room, and he makes a In-battle effect item for you.

This gym is similar to one in Kanto in that it's a series of rooms connected by warp tiles. Each room contains trainers and obstacles on spinners that rotate when certain tiles are stepped on, changing the path and often bringing the sight of enemy trainers in-line with you. In , the Gym's puzzle had only spinner tiles.
As you might have noticed, the seventh Gym is located here, led by Tate and Liza who will challenge you to a double battle! The specialty here is in Psychic Pokémon. The highest-leveled Pokémon in the Gym are Level 42, so training to at least that level before challenging the Gym is recommended. When you're ready, enter the Gym.

As stated before, the Trainers here use Psychic Pokémon, which are weak to Bug-, Dark-, and Ghost-type attacks. Psychic is good against Fighting- and Poison-types, so don't use those Pokémon in this Gym challenge.  Dark-type Pokémon are immune to Psychic-type attacks, and Dark-type moves can be learned by a wide variety of Pokémon, so use that to your advantage here.

When you challenge the Gym Leaders, they will send out Claydol, a -type, and Xatu, a -type. Claydol knows Earthquake, a powerful Ground-type attack that will hit both your Pokémon unless they have the Ability Levitate or are Flying-type. Note that all of Tate and Liza's Pokémon are immune to Ground-type moves due to this very fact. Xatu also has the powerful attack Psychic, the Rock move AncientPower, and the defensive move Light Screen, which reduces Special Attack damage done to its team by one-third. It has a huge number of weaknesses, however: Ice-, Electric-, Ghost-, Dark-, and Bug-type attacks will all do super-effective damage to it, so use moves of those types to take it out. Claydol, on the other hand, is weak to Water-, Grass-, Ice-, Ghost-, Dark-, and Bug-type attacks.
Once Xatu and Claydol are taken care of, the next Pokémon will be Solrock and Lunatone. These two are both Psychic/Rock-types, and are therefore greatly damaged by Water, Grass, and Steel attacks as well as the usual Psychic-type weaknesses of Dark-, Ghost-, Bugs. Solrock knows the move Sunny Day, which raises the power of Fire attacks.  However, it also knows SolarBeam, a Grass-type move with 120 base power that will not need to waste a turn for charging during sunny weather. It also takes advantage of Sunny Day to give boost its Flamethrower attack. Grass-, Bug-, Ice-, and Steel-types will need to watch out! Lunatone is more defensive, with Light Screen, Calm Mind, and Hypnosis to make your Pokémon fall asleep, as well as Psychic.

Xatu has a moderately high Special Attack stat, and also knows Psychic. Its other moves are Confuse Ray, which will confuse your Pokémon, Calm Mind to boost its Special Attack and Special Defense, and Sunny Day for some reason. Sunny Day will give a boost to any Fire moves used in battle, so use this to your advantage! A good Ice-, Electric-, Rock-, or Dark-type move or two will most likely knock it out. Once Xatu and Claydol are taken care of, the next Pokémon are Solrock and Lunatone. These two are both Psychic/Rock-types, and are therefore supereffectively damaged by Water, Grass, and Steel as well as the normal Psychic-type DarkGhostBug. Like Xatu, Solrock knows Sunny Day, except that it can put the move to good use— it knows SolarBeam, a Grass-type move with 120 base power, which will not need to waste a turn for charging during sunny weather. It also takes advantage of Sunny Day to give a boost to its Flamethrower. Grass-, Bug-, Ice-, and Steel-types will need to watch out! When they are defeated, Tate and Liza will give you the Mind and 04. Exit the Gym using the warp tiles.
