Anorith (Japanese: アノプス Anopth) is a dual-type Rock/Bug Pokémon.

It is resurrected from a Claw Fossil and then evolves into Armaldo starting at level 40.

Biology

Anorith is a fossil Pokémon no longer found in the wild, and must be resurrected from a Claw Fossil.

Physiology

Anorith is a swimming creature which uses flexible lobes on the sides of its body to propel itself through the water. Its large head had one pair of large, beady eyes. Two large claws protrude from its head, serving as either defense against predators or attack against prey. These claws eventually turn to the fossil that can be used to revive the Anorith.

Gender differences

No gender differences.

Special abilities

Behavior

Anorith hunt for prey on the sea floor and grip their prey in their sharp claws.

Habitat

The exact habitat of Anorith is unknown, but so far Claw Fossils are only found in the Hoenn and Sinnoh regions. Anorith is a fossil Pokémon no longer found in the wild, and must be resurrected from a Claw Fossil.

Diet

In the anime

Anorith has not had a major role in the series, though it was seen amongst other fossil Pokémon on two occasions. Its first appearance was on a small island to the east of Hoenn's mainland in Where's Armaldo? where it was being studied with the other fossil Pokémon from Hoenn. More Anorith were resurrected and studied by the scientists in Oreburgh City in Wild in the Streets. Team Rocket's plan in DP107 is to steal a large Claw fossil, though the Pokémon itself does not fully appear.

Trivia

  • Anorith and its evolution, Armaldo, are the only Template:Type2 Pokémon with genders that are not in the Bug Egg Group.
  • Anorith's frontal Generation IV sprites are exactly the same as its frontal Generation III sprites.

Origin

Anorith appears to be closely based on an Anomalocaris.

Name origin

Anorith's name possibly comes from a combination of Anomalocaris and lith, meaning rock or stone.
