Aibo first appears with Gold's mother, who asks him to go wake up her sleeping son. Along with the other Pokémon living there, they manage to wake up Gold who goes outside to play with them. Later, at night, they encounter a Trainer named Joey who had his bag stolen by a wild Murkrow. Together, Gold and Aibo manage to defeat and capture the thieving Pokémon.
Later, in a battle with the evil Masked Man, Aibo, along with Gold's other Pokémon, is used to battle the man. Despite their defeat by his hands, Aibo managed to scratch pieces of his mask off, which later proves to be instrumental in finding out his true identity.
Later, when Gold faces the Masked Man for the last time, Aibo is used against him. Despite easily being defeated, Aibo manages to send his boosted stats to Sudobo, giving him the speed needed to get the upper hand in the match.
In the Emerald arc, Aibo appears with Gold and Crystal to fight against the villain, Guile Hideout. Gold gives his billiard cue to Aibo, who uses it power up Exbo's attack on Guile Hideout. Later, Aibo is used to subdue Guile along with Crystal, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald's other Pokémon only to be easily sent flying back.
In the HeartGold & SoulSilver arc, Aibo is used in the Pokéathlon along with Gold's other Pokémon. In the Power Course, Aibo goes up against Bruno of the Elite Four. Despite the clear disadvantage Gold has, he manages to exploit Aibo's powerful tail strength to win the final round, giving him the win.
Later, Aibo evolves into an Ambipom after learning Double Hit at Ecruteak City. His evolution gains him the admiration of everyone around him, making Togebo jealous in the process.
