Leaf is the female counterpart to Red and main character in Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. She lives in Pallet Town, across from her upcoming rival in Pokémon training, Blue. Leaf is presumably 11 years old, the same age as her male counterpart, Red. The equivalent character in the Pokémon Special manga is Blue, who changes her outfit to match in the FireRed and LeafGreen chapter.

Trivia
- In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Jigglypuff can wear Leaf's hat as an alternate costume. This is similar to how Pikachu wears Red's hat as an alternate costume.
- Leaf is the only player character who has not had an appearance in the anime, either through a counterpart (as is the case with Jimmy/Gold and Ash/Red ) or a movie cameo (as has happened to Brendan and Lucas).
- Leaf was supposed to be in the original Red and Green versions, due to the fact that on Nintendo's Official guidebook, it depicted a female trainer with long brown hair, a black dress, white gloves and short black boots, alongside the male protagonist and the rival. It is believed she was supposed to be in the game, but was left out for some reason.
- Some speculate that if Leaf or a counterpart to her does appear, they might be one of the unknown trainers from Pallet starting with either Bulbasaur or Charmander at the same time Ash began his journey.
- Leaf's official artwork shows her with brown eyes but her sprite displays her with blue eyes.
