Eviolite

Revision as of 10:26, 3 December 2022 by SomnoticAgama (talk | contribs) (I've seen this confirmed by multiple people; can't find a good source to add as a reference at present though, so that's still needed.)

The Eviolite (Japanese: しんかのきせき Evolution Stone) is a type of held item introduced in Generation V. It boosts the Defense and Special Defense of a Pokémon that holds it if the holder is not fully evolved.

Effect

If held by a Pokémon that is not fully evolved, raises its Defense and Special Defense by 50%.

The Eviolite only affects Pokémon if their form and species can evolve. If only the regional form of a species can evolve, only the regional form is affected by the Eviolite. Likewise, the Eviolite does not affect Cosplay Pikachu, Pikachu in a cap, or Eternal Flower Floette. It also does not affect Pikachu, Meowth, or Eevee if they have the Gigantamax Factor, due to not being able to evolve. Meltan is not affected by the Eviolite, because it cannot evolve in the core series games. The Eviolite also does not affect Pokémon if their evolved form did not exist at the time of a game's release - for example, the Eviolite affects Dunsparce in Scarlet and Violet, but not in Sword and Shield. It affects appropriate Pokémon even when their evolved forms cannot be obtained, such as Magneton in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver or Ursaring and Stantler in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

However, the Eviolite does affect Combee and Salandit regardless of gender. If held by a transformed Pokémon, the boost is based on its original species, not the species it is transformed into.

Main article: Eviolite (Noble Victories 91)

Eviolite was introduced as a Pokémon Tool card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Black & White Series (the Japanese BW Era) in the Noble Victories expansion. When this Trainer card is attached to a Basic Pokémon, any damage done to this Pokémon by attacks is reduced by 20, after applying Weakness and Resistance.

Trivia

  • Eviolite's name may derived from evolution, previous, and the -ite suffix found in the names of many minerals.
  • Eviolite's Japanese name contains a pun; しんかのきせき Shinka no Kiseki can also be taken to mean "Miracle of Evolution".
  • Although Galarian Slowpoke could not evolve when it first came out, Eviolite did affect it.
