Milotic (Japanese: ミロカロス Milokaross) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.
It evolves from Feebas by maxing-out its Beauty stat.
Biology
Physiology
Milotic's appearance is similar to that of a sea serpent. The top of its head is long, with a point at the end, and long hair-like fins drape from the sides of the head. Its lower tail is covered with blue and pink scales, and four large scales overlap at the tip of the tail to look like a fan. Milotic is described in the Pokédex as breathtakingly beautiful.
Gender differences
The female's eyebrow fins are longer than the male's.
Special abilities
Milotic have the ability to calm their enemies by removing their negative feelings, this suggests that they possess empathetic abilities similar to some species of psychic Pokémon.
Behavior
Milotic is a peaceful Pokémon that typically tries to avoid battles. It appears to dislike conflict, and will even appear before arguing humans in an attempt to calm their minds. It is a historically significant Pokémon, and has been depicted in many works of art.
Habitat
Milotic lives at the bottom of large lakes.
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
In the animeIn the manga
In Pokémon Special, Ruby's Feebas evolved into Milotic after Ruby declared that it had great beauty.
In the TCGGame dataTrivia
- Milotic's trainer in Pokémon Colosseum was "Venus", possibly reassuring Milotic's name basis as the sculpture "Venus de Milo".
- Milotic could be seen as a counterpart to Gyarados. Like Gyarados, Milotic evolves from a weak fish Pokémon (incidentally, Feebas and Magikarp have the same move sets) and is modeled after a sea serpent. Although both can be either male or female, Milotic has a feminine and serene appearance while Gyarados has a masculine and aggressive appearance. In addition, their evolutions represent extreme weakness turning into extreme power and extreme ugliness turning into extreme beauty. Their color schemes, both normal and shiny, are also vice versa; Magikarp is red, but Gyarados is blue, while Feebas is blue and Milotic is red. Gyarados's shiny form is red, while Milotic's is blue. Both shiny forms, Gyarados and Milotic's, are based on their previous forms' normal coloring. It is also noteworthy that both have the same stats of 95-60-79-100-125-81, with HP, Defense and Speed being 95, 79 and 81 respectively, and the remaining stats distributed differently for each Pokémon. Gyarados and Milotic are part of the same egg group: Dragon.
- In the anime, with the exception of Pike Queen Lucy, all of the Milotic that appeared were under the ownership of a Pokémon coordinator or at least a part-time coordinator.
- The Platinum sprite of Milotic is the movement of Milotic's sprite in Diamond & Pearl. It moves to the position of the Milotic sprite in Platinum and goes back to normal.
Origin
Milotic may be based loosely on sirens, mythical creatures who can hypnotize with their voice to make men attracted to them. An argument can also be made for the possibility it is loosely based on The Loch Ness Monster.
Name origin
Milotic's name may be a combination of melodic and Milo, as in the sculpture Venus de Milo, which is known for being an example of beauty, and like Milotic, possesses no arms. Its Japanese name may be a combination of the aforementioned Milo and the Greek καλλονή kalloni, meaning beauty or Χάρις charis, beauty, elegance, charm, or grace. See also Charites.
Milotic also have a wide range of healing and defensive moves, so its name may also be a variation on mitotic, descriptive of the healing process of a body part through mitosis.
