-In ''[[EP158|A Goldenrod Opportunity]]'', Team Rocket rode a cart from Goldenrod to Saffron, to escape {{Ash}}, {{an|Misty}}, {{an|Brock}}, and [[Whitney]] after stealing her {{p|Clefairy}}. They then swapped Clefairy for {{AP|Pikachu}} and proceeded down the track. Clefairy then used {{m|Metronome}} which turned into a {{m|Gust}} which carried Pikachu back to Ash. Pikachu then electrified the track, sending the maintenance cart Team Rocket was driving flying down the track. Team Rocket had earlier inquired as to riding the train, but were told that it was being built and would take a year from the next Tuesday to be completed.

 The completed Magnet Train finally appeared in ''[[BW141|Best Wishes Until We Meet Again!]]'', where {{an|Cilan}} and {{an|Iris}} used it to leave Kanto for Johto.
