Rudy's Starmie was one of the Pokémon Rudy chose in his gym battle against Ash.

It was shown to be powerful and fast, two attributes which are typical of Starmies. As with most of Rudy's Pokémon, Stamie was proficient in modern dance, and used it to help avoid attacks thrown at it by Ash's Squirtle. It also demonstarted a powerful Water Gun, being able to beat Squirtle in a standoff. Despite being quick and having Thunderbolt at its disposal, it was ultimately weakened by Squirtle's newly learned Hydro Pump, and finished with a Skull Bash.

Trivia
* It is the only time a Starmie is shown using Thunderbolt in the anime.
* This is the last major on screen appearance of Starmie in the anime.
* It is speculated amongst fans that during the course of their evening together, Misty may have mentioned she was fond of Starmie, hence his choice of the Pokémon, and 'dedicating' the battle to her.
* This is the first time Dance is used as a method of evasion in a battle, it would later be used again in Flower Power
